The Hook Test

Two chorus lines. One of them survives being sung four times in a row. Pick it. Eight pairs, two minutes, no account.

A chorus line has one job: to be worth hearing again. Most first drafts fail it in ways that are easy to name once you have heard them: the named feeling, the eternal promise, the explained image, the vowel that cannot be held. This test is those tells, eight times.

Scored against a chance guesser, with the craft move to train first at the end.
